A Sellaronda Side‑Quest

Arabba → Dolomites Geyser (Buffaure) → Arabba

Craving something more memorable than a self‑service schnitzel yet still doable in a day’s skiing? Head for Dolomites Geyser Restaurant & Après‑Ski above Pozza di Fassa. Perched beside the Buffaure gondola’s top station, it pairs a sun‑drenched terrace that stares straight at the Catinaccio with a menu heavy on Trentino comfort food and well‑shaken cocktails.

Arabba, dawn. The sky is still lavender when the first groomers switch off and the Porta Vescovo cabins begin their silent ballet up the cliff face. Steam coils from coffee cups outside Caffè Peter as locals trade weather gossip “nevica sul Pordoi?” and a handful of early birds click into bindings, eager to claim corduroy bragging rights. You follow suit, sliding toward the gondola with just‑honed edges and the day’s mission in mind: a detour deep into Val di Fassa for lunch with a view.

By the time you crest Sass Becé the sun has cleared Col di Lana, painting the Sella towers gold and pitching long blue shadows onto the Belvedere bowl. The Sellaronda’s orange‑way markers promise efficiency, but today you’re hunting flavour as well as mileage. One valley, two cable cars and a high‑alpine traverse later, Buffaure’s broad ridge appears, an open‑air amphitheatre framing the jagged Rosengarten group. In the centre sits Dolomites Geyser, its timber‑and‑glass façade already alive with the clink of glasses and the scent of polenta sizzling on cast‑iron skillets.

Why this hut?

  • Panoramic deck – wraparound views from the Sella towers to the Latemar chain.
  • Locavore menu – polenta with slow‑braised venison, homemade canederli, and a “Geyser Spritz” you’ll want a second of.
  • Live‑music vibe – most Fridays and peak‑weeks feature sunset DJ sets or acoustic sessions.

Outbound leg | clockwise (orange) Sellaronda with a Buffaure bolt‑on.
